How did you originally get into pipe-making and heady glass art?

I got into pipe-making and heady glass honestly because I love weed. To me, pipe-making is the intersection of function and art. I love to make art that people interact with and share with friends.

What is it about glass as a medium that keeps you coming back?

I love how challenging glass is, and how you will always learn something new. Glass is where science meets art. It’s mysterious and humbling.

When selecting a glass company to work with, what are you looking for? What qualities are you looking for in your raw materials? How do you know when glass is of good quality?

I usually will look at what my shopmates are using, if they’re satisfied with the material, tools, etc. I look for quality above everything. Unfortunately, sometimes it’s hard to tell if glass is of good quality until after you’ve used it.

From your perspective, why is glass so important to the cannabis community?

Pipe-making has been an underground grass-roots subculture that has been rejected by fine art institutions for so long, similar to the cannabis community in many ways. These communities often overlap each other and consist of hard working and self-taught people that are extremely passionate about what they do.

And personally, I believe that cannabis tastes better when smoked out of glass.
